Im talking about free forum makers like http://www.makeforum.org/ and http://www.freeforums.org/. Not free hosts, only free forum hosts, they are limited and hardly anyone will sign up!

Very good article and I would agree with much of what is said.
The only thing I would add is that forums can succeed on Free Hosting plans but they are harder to make a limited success and unlikely to ever make you the admin any money from it. Some free hosting plans offer the opportunity to not have advert banners and some offer a lot of features that you would normally have to encode yourself.
My advice would be to look around and set up a test forum with different hosting companies until you find the one that suits you the most. For every quality free host there are a dozen that are unprofessional or have hidden problems waiting to spring on you at a later date when you have already commited.
With a quality free host that doesnt do banner adverts (or very limited ones) and has a good software then you can start your first community and build towards a successful one (I did with some success) but you will always feel like Big Brother is watching over you to make sure your moderation is impeccable and I would say that you should only ever use a Free Hosting company for building your first community until it reaches to such a size that you are ready to pay for the hosting and go your own route to expansion.

I just submitted 5 more forums and one thing I can think of that would be Wonderful! Is if you can click a button and the meta description is automatically added to our edit field. Then if we want to add to it or change it a little, it's already written out.

Anyways, just an idea I had that would make it easier for forum owners to add their forums.
*maybe keywords as well*

cheers
